Today is mine and Kevin's wedding anniversary. We have been married for 13 years. In some ways, it seems like it has been a lot longer. I don't mean that in a bad way. (Although, there have been moments, many moments.) I just mean that there has been a lot of living in those 13 years. The birth of three babies, the vacations, building a home and moving and kids starting school and me quitting my day-job. The changing of seasons, the mowing of grass, the gifts we've exchanged, the Buckeye games we've cheered on together. All of those significant and insignificant things that pass our time and in the blink of an eye, it's one year later.
There are people in Hollywood that have been married two or three times and combined, they still haven't been married for 13 years! It's crazy how easily some people walk away from a marriage. I realize, there are times when people just can't get along anymore, have changed too much to make it work, or trust has been broken.
We celebrated our anniversary over the weekend when we had the opportunity to have my parents watch the kids so we could go out to dinner. We enjoyed our dinner without having to review the kids menu first or listen to our three children grumble over who was going to play "Super Monkey Ball 2" first on my iPod Touch.
We aren't into big, expensive gifts. I consider our evening out together gift enough. However, today I made a cheesecake for Kevin for dessert tonight. I haven't made a cheesecake in quite a while and I know he likes my homemade cheesecake. I even have the cherry topping that he likes so much. He also sprung a little gift on me. He got me the "Just Dance 2" Wii game. See? It's the little things that you do for one another that keeps a marriage going!
