I’ve heard it said, “Everything in moderation.” Do the people who use this catch-phrase really mean everything? If that’s the case, then I am in luck. Today, I have had only 1 “fun size” Snickers bar, and only 1 “fun size” Kit Kat, and only 1 homemade chocolate caramel, and only 1 piece of homemade peanut butter fudge, and last, but not least, only 1 small heart shaped cookie. I had everything in moderation! I might as well just write this day off as a total loss. Kevin and I are going out to eat tomorrow night to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We are trying out a new-ish Mexican place in town and I had thought I might splurge and have a margarita. There is no way I can allow myself to have one if I don’t get on the treadmill at some point tomorrow. I generally lay off the treadmill on the weekends, but I might have to force myself just to relieve some of the guilt I am feeling right now. It’s been one of those days where the only times I have sat down was in driving to and from somewhere, going to the bathroom or mealtime. It’s too easy on days like this to just pop a little something in your mouth and not think about it and then at the end of the day, when you add it all up, suddenly you are horrified at what you’ve put into your body and didn’t even take the time to really savor and enjoy it because it was so random and mindless. My motto has always been: Savor The Flavor. I don’t know if I made that up or if I heard it somewhere once, liked it, repeated it a few times and then it just became mine. I will start fresh tomorrow. Forget about yesterday (which is still technically today) and try not to beat myself up over it.
The photo you see pictured above is a sampling of the Chocolate Caramels I made yesterday for teacher’s gifts. I’ve been making these for a few years now and they make a great holiday gift for people. My children gave them today to their teacher’s and school bus driver as a small token to say “Happy Valentine’s Day!” I love homemade gifts. This year, Jenna got in on the action and helped me wrap them. I was so grateful to discover that she has a real knack for it too. We got the job done in no time!
