I survived turning 40 over the weekend. It still sounds weird to say it. I'm 40. This is going to take some getting used to. Everyone tells me that it's just a number. Maybe the frightening part to me is that my 30's went incredibly fast and if the 40's are the same, that means 50. Yikes!
Kevin had a party for me. Way back in December, he mentioned to me that he wanted to have a party for me and wanted to know if it would be okay. Let me just say, I appreciate that he asked first. It's nice to know that after 12 years of marriage and feeling like he doesn't know anything about what I want sometimes, he got that part right! I don't like surprises. I told him to go ahead. I figured if I had to turn 40, I might as well have a good time and spend it with family and friends. And that is exactly what the evening turned out to be. And there were a few surprises along the way. I didn't know who was coming for sure. I had an idea of who he had invited but didn't really know who all would be there. And then, come to find out, he put together a little slide show of some of my "greatest moments in history." Turns out my Mom and even my niece, Kayla were in on that little project.
I'll share just a few of the highlights from the evening here.
Here I am with Jenna and Evan. Evan, always with the Phineas and Ferb tshirt. I asked him if he could wear a nicer shirt that night as a birthday gift to me. He declined my request. Thanks Evan!
My Mom and me. She, along with my mother-in-law really pitched in to help Kevin with the food. It was a huge relief to me when I found out they were helping him!
There's my mother-in-law, Laura, with Evan getting the slide show set up. Turns out she was in on that too, helping Kevin with her projector and laptop. It would figure that Evan would be in on the computer action.
I regret that the lighting was terrible for this picture. This is me with my dear friend, Joy. Her two daughters are the same age as Jenna and Owen and our hubbies are in the same line of work.
Again, poor photography, but, this is me with two of my dearest and oldest friends. Standing next to me is Becky. We roomed together during all of our years at Ohio State. Go Bucks! Next to her is Julie and we have been friends since high school and all through college together. Good Times!
Rosa, Rosa, Rosa! Her name is really Rosmarie but in our college hey-day, she was Rosa. It was a real surprise to have Rose at my party. She lives a long distance away and just happened to be at a conference over the weekend in Columbus and was able to stop by on her way back north. Thanks for the drive-by Rosa!
By the end of the night, Owen had really had enough of paryting. He was having a rough weekend anyway and well, he was just ready to go home and go to bed by this point in the night. So was I, come to think of it! I woke up the next morning, laid in bed, and thought, "Well, I survived and it wasn't a dream. I am 40." There I said it!
