We returned late last night from a whirlwind trip that took us to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin to Chicago and back home all in a matter of 4...count 'em...4 days. And, believe it or not, it was actually quite relaxing!
Kevin's sister and her family moved to the
Land of Cheese a year ago and we had yet to make a visit to see them. Nevermind the fact that we didn't make it out to see them in Minnesota for the two years they were there previous to Wisconsin.
We had a fun time sight-seeing and basically, just spending time together.
Here are a few of the highlights...
| A warm welcome to a small town situated on the Mississippi River. |
| No, not the famous Pike's Peak in Colorado. But, it was founded by the same guy! |
| A bird's eye view of the mighty Mississippi from Pike's Peak. |
| All five cousins. Poor Jenna had no chance surrounded by all of these boys! |
| Owen holds up the pink elephant in front of the Lady Luck Casino that sits on the Iowa side of the Mississippi. |
| A life-sized eagle's nest . |
| Owen and Kevin checked out some cool natural artifacts inside the nature center near the Effigy Mounds. |
| Owen checks his scavenger hunt list. |
| Evan insisted that I take a picture of this found hanging on the wall of Mulligan's where we ate lunch. |
| Wading on the banks of the Mississippi. |
| Not all fun and games...there was learning too! |
| Opening the dam gate for a boat to pass by. Not to be confused with a damn gate! |
| A friendly, if not slightly creepy, quick stop at Valley Cheese to pick up some cheese curds to take home. |
| A ride on the World's Largest Hand-Carved Wooden Sturgeon. |
| How they know this is the "World's Largest" is a mystery to me. |
| But it IS awefully big! |
| Thanks Again, Shelly, Chad, Caleb and Cayson! |
Be sure to check back later this week for highlights from our rainy visit to the Windy City!
