From 9 to 19.

My family and I attended my high school's Homecoming game and pregame festivities this weekend.  My niece was part of the Homecoming "Royalty" and we wanted to be there to support and celebrate with her.  My older niece, who is in college, my daughter and I left the bleachers and walked down onto the track surrounding the football field to get up closer and take some pictures.

Here's the conversation and the observations as they took place...

Says my 9 year old daughter who is wise beyond her years and very practical:
"Mommy, why are some of the girls wearing skirts that are so short?"

Says I with a carefully worded response, hoping she'll remember it when she's 16:
"Because, Jenna, sometimes young girls like to dress like they are older."

Says my can't-wait-to-get-out-of-here-and-see-the-world niece who is 19:
"And when they are older, they dress to look younger!"
It took me a couple of seconds for that to sink in.  And then I laughed out loud!

How true.

So true.
