Ham and Cheese Stromboli

My family loves. Loves. LOVES. L-O-V-E-S.
This meal.

And I wish I could lie to you and say that I mix up fresh bread dough and slave over this meal for hours on end.

Full disclosure.  It is easy. as. pie.
So long as you put frozen bread dough on your grocery list.  This is a very handy product to keep on-hand.  There are a myriad of delectable foods you can produce with frozen bread dough.  Another will be featured here in the near future.

Today, we're talking ham and cheese Stromboli.

Ham and Cheese Stromboli
Here's What You Need:
1 pound frozen bread dough, thawed
9 ounces shaved deli ham
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 egg, lightly beaten
2 Tablespoons Parmesan cheese

Here's What You Do:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Place the risen bread dough on a lightly floured surface and flatten it out slightly with your hands. With a rolling pin, gently roll the bread dough into a rectangle that is approximately 12 inches by 8 inches in size.

Top the dough with the ham, over-lapping slices. This go-around, I happened to have some ham leftover in the freezer and just used that, so I didn't need to get any from the deli. I love using leftovers for a brand new meal! Leave a 1/2 inch border when laying out the ham.

Mix up the shredded cheddar cheese and the mayonnaise and spread it over the ham. Use your hands. It's too thick to use a spoon or knife to spread it out.
Moisten the edges of the dough with water and fold one long side over 1/3 of the way. Bring the other long side over and then bring the end up and pinch all of the edges to seal it in.

Now! Make like a magician and flip it over so the seam sides are down and on the parchment paper on the cookie sheet. Using kitchen scissors or a knife, cut 3 diagonal slights in the top of the dough. This allows the steam to escape and keeps the bread from being doughy
Brush the top of the Stromboli with the egg and then sprinkle the Parmesan cheese on top. Bake for 34-40 minutes.

Cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serves 4-6 people depending on how hungry they are!

This is a great recipe to fix if you're having friends over to watch a football game, your kids are having friends over and you want an alternative to pizza or you want something quick and easy for a family dinner on a crazy night.  All you need are some veggies and you are good to go!
