I made this yummy, delicious, decadent, tasty, yummy - oops, already used that adjective! - anyway, I made this cake last week.
It was a big mistake. Huge. Monumental. I could not keep out of it. There's something about cold cake. Of course, I could also say that there's something about warm cake. And, not to play favorites, I like room temperature cake as well. I just love cake. Cake really gives cookies some competition. Oh, let's just face it. I live for desserts of all shape and size. They are my undoing. They are why I have a treadmill in my basement and I have a date with it 5 days a week.
I used toasted pecans rather than the recommended walnuts.
I finally had to just whack off a few slices of this cake, place it in a container and send it with one of the kids down to a neighbor's house. It was the only chance I had at saving myself from myself. How pitiful is that?! It was one of those times when you slice off just a thin, smidge of a piece and then you come back later, justifying that it was just a thin, smidge of a piece, so you can afford to have another thin, smidge of a piece. You can imagine how I argue with myself all day long. I'm a grown adult after all. Why do I behave this way?! (Insert crickets chirping.) That was a rhetorical question, by the way.
So, here's the recipe. I want to share it with all of you. Just be sure to make this cake when you have company over or someplace to take it. Don't let it taunt you from the fridge like it did me. Or perhaps you're stronger than me...
The recipe comes courtesy of the good folks at
Kraft Foods. Their recipe database is really good. Check it out sometime when you have a hankering for a new recipe using products you probably already have in your kitchen. (This is not a paid advertisement.)
