Little Miss Sew and Sew

Jenna's been busy lately working on her 4-H projects.  She's cooking.  She's sewing.  She's memorizing her demonstration for a contest in June.  Never-mind the fact that she's also been playing soccer and softball, doing homework and trying to master math facts (darn those timed tests!) and rehearsing with the children's choir at church.  She's one busy eight year old.  No doubt about that.  And while it might seem like too much for a kid her age, and yes, there are times when she complains that there's "work" to be done, truly, she wouldn't want it any other way.  There are times when I would like to "sit a spell" and she'll come to me with a "Mommy, can we do this?"  How do you resist a child's desire to "do" and "make?"

Working on the questions in her project book.  Do YOU know what a presser foot or a balance wheel are?

Hand sewing takes a careful eye.  Jenna's been doing a lot of that lately.  Here she is finishing up a pin cushion.  Sometimes she'll fashion a skirt for one of her dolls doing some handy work.  Her 4-H club member friend, Belle, was thoughtful to share some of her hand sewing expertise at a recent meeting.

The finished product and a proud smile.  What more could you want for your children than the satisfaction of accomplishment.  Those "I did it myself!" moments are priceless.

  1. She should have a "Bee" beside her name. Jenna busy as a bee. Not a good day for bees. To wet.
Tell her to keep up the good work :-)
