Little Labor on Labor Day

Happy Labor Day!

It's been a busy weekend for our family.  As it comes to an end today, our calendar is clear.  What an unusual joy that is for us!

On Friday, the kids had an early release from school.

Translation:   I had fewer hours to myself to clean the house, buy groceries and prepare food for our cookout later that night.

Luckily, Kevin was able to take off work a couple of hours early and came home to help me out.

And.  And!  The kids were unusually well-behaved making it easier to get everything done.  Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I didn't pay attention to their tv-watching or video game-playing...

Saturday was Jenna's 9th birthday!  We celebrated with extended famiy last weekend and she'd had a French-inspired birthday party with some girlfriends a few weeks before school started.  So this day was very low-key for us as birthdays go.

Happy Birthday Jenna!

Jenna was thrilled beyond words with two of her birthday presents.  The gifts that brought the biggest raves were a new set of chalk pastels (my little artiste!) and a trunk featuring peace signs.  Just look at her face if you don't believe me!

We also enjoyed a fine OHIO STATE VICTORY on Saturday!  GO BUCKS!

Sunday was filled with church and homework and trying to get the house back in order.  Since Kevin had to work on the evening of Jenna's birthday, we delayed going out to eat to celebrate so we ate out on Sunday night instead.

As if on cue, the weather has turned much cooler today.  The gray, rainy skies will change many family's plans.  Our plans?  Well, we might have chosen to visit the pool today, one last time, had the weather been nicer, or maybe even go to the park.

Instead, I believe we will just lay low and take it easy...right after I finish this load of laundry.
