Off They Go!

My two older children, Evan and Jenna, began school last week.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that my oldest is in the 6th grade this year.  (Nevermind the fact that I have classmates from high school who have children in college!)  I still remember my 6th grade year, so I am hoping that will help me empathize with Evan and understand where he's coming from, the confusion of emotions he might be feeling, the stress of school work becoming more difficult, the social pecking order kicking into high gear.

Jenna has always seemed wise beyond her years to me.  When she was three years old, people would mistake her for a five or six year old.  Not because of her size, but because of her articulate vocabulary and mature conversational skills.  Nowadays, we sometimes wonder when her stories will ever end!  I know her natural gift will serve her well throughout life though.  Have a great year in 4th grade Jenna!

And then there is Owen.  Owen began kindergarten this week.  The youngest in our family that we have tried so very hard not to baby.  At the end of the day, though, he is the baby of the family.  He is the last to experience most of what goes on in our lives.  As he grows older, Owen is beginning to have some of his own unique walks through life and I am trying hard to help create those for him to help build his confidence and self esteem.

He looks pretty confident here!
I have met all of my children's teachers and I am so excited for this new school year.  I can't wait to see all of the new things they and I learn!
