What is Weird?

Tonight I was, once again, reminded of how weird my family is.  There are little inside stories or jokes that only we get.  Rituals that I am sure others might think are...well - WEIRD!

Last week, my daughter had someone tell her that a couple of her friends were weird.  One of the friends overheard the conversation.  Jenna was later talking to the "weird" girl in question and the girl proclaimed, "I'm not weird.  I just like to do weird things!"  I'm so glad this friend of Jenna's is secure enough in her individuality to be happy and proud of her own unique personality.  I'm equally happy that my daughter can see past the quirks to see true value and worth in all people.

Here is what Webster's has to say about the word, WEIRD...
  1. of, relating to, or caused by witchcraft or magic
  2. very unusual or strange
Okay, so the witchcraft and magic part has me a bit perplexed, but I can get on-board with the whole very unusual or strange part of the definition.

We do have some very strange and some very unusual moments in our everyday life.

But really, wouldn't life be boring if there were no weirdness? And what is weird to you might be perfectly normal to me!

So the next time I tell someone they are a big weirdo, I say it with the utmost love and affection!

Now, go do something weird today and enjoy yourself while you do it!
